Ash enamels

I know it seems something exotic the elaboration of Chinese enamels in a land of Moorish potters. Yet, despite my roots, the attraction of the plants and the symbolism of the ash became something irresistible to me. I began to burn about four years ago. I had been caught and impressed much before, though, by this ancient method of turning plants burned to ashes into colorful glasses. Brother Daniel from Taizé ( is an ecumenical monastic community in France) is a reputed ceramist specialized in ash and stoneware enamels. For my greatest happiness he was the one who taught me what I know and with whom I glimpsed the transposition of this natural “miracle”: the mystery of our life and our death.
